Mail

My mail man brought me this on SaturdayIt is from my tote exchange pal Karen who is sadly blogless. I love this bag ! Thank you Karen! I had round 12 of chemo on Friday, fun fun. I did get some great news! The last time I was there they took blood for my CA 125 which for normal people is  0 to 35 and last year when we started all this lovely stuff  mine was well over 1000, but I was told Friday that it is now down to 13!!!!!!!!!!!! So this is exciting stuff!! I am so glad that it is working and that I will be done in 6 months and I won’t have to go through chemo anymore!!!  So I can handle 6 more months now that I know it is working. I have no knitting to show it’s been a long weekend. I am going to get some done tomorrow before I take the boys out trick or treating. So I’m sure I’ll have pictures to share with you of the boys all dressed up. Until tomorrow later today Happy Knitting!!

What I have been doing

I haven’t been doing a whole lot. Joe and I had our 7 year anniversary on the 16th. We didn’t do anything I had a Cub scout meeting and then we were both tired so maybe we’ll go out for dinner this weekend. Who knows.  I have been knitting. I finished a hat for this round of Caps  I used the Samantha Sock Yarn pattern from the daily knitter. The pattern in knit flat and then seemed up  but I just knit it in the round so there would be no seem.  I also made a pair of fetching gloves from knitty  I used SWTC Karaoke 1 ball will make one pair . These took no time at all to knit. The pattern is easy and mindless.  I have another hat otn right now just a basic hat I want to get this one done and then try to get one more done before the end of the month.

Today I got a loverly package in the mail. Penny from http://pennyknits.blogspot.com/ wanted to swap some Noro for some Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece. I have some so that and I can’t pass up Noro! I sent her some cotton fleece and she sent me this!!  Isn’t it beautiful!! I am going to make a hat out of one and mittens to match!! I can’t wait to get started on this!! Thanks for the swap Penny!!

My mail man likes me

I got home from Chandler’s cub scouts meeting with even less of a voice then I had when I left and I found a package from Lisa Souza waiting on me!! Yay!!!! One for me and on for my Sock-ret pal! So I can show you what I got for me!  The picture doesn’t do the yarn justice! Then I got up this morning and the UPS man left a box on my back porch from The Brown Sheep Company. I had sent them an email about making a donation of mill ends to Caps for a Cure. So they sent me a box of Cones! Now how do I split cones up between people in the group? Any suggestions?? This is what I got and I love them for doing it!  It is very soft and nice yarn.

And since it is Socktoberfest I thought I would flash my sock yarn stash and post my questions that Lolly asked  so here is my stash  Wow I didn’t realize that I had that much! Oh well!

When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?  I started making socks this past summer. I taught myself I wanted to take a class but there was never any classes when I had time.

What was your first pair? How have they “held up” over time? My first pair of sock were theseThey didn’t hold up I had to frog them but that is ok because I have gotten much better since then!

What would you have done differently?  I would have really learned the kitchner stitch insted of just winging it. Maybe they would have turned out better.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed? So far I have used Trekking XXL which I love Lorna’s Laces one of my favorites, Interlacement’s Tiny Toe’s, Opal really starting to love, Schaffer Anne how can you say anything bad about this yarn, and Knit Picks.

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method? I don’t know how to crochet so I knit my socks  tried using DPN’s  and wow lets just say it’s not for me!! so I magic loop all my socks.

Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)  I like doing the heel flap better than the short row my short row always has holes in it.

How many pairs have you made? 11 pairs

October Birthday Swap Package

I got a package in the mail! My wonderful pal Hanne-Marie lives in Finland and sent me this wonderful box full of goodies!  My first ball of Opal! Zebra print I already cast on a pair of socks! Some sock yarn from Finland that translates to 7 brothers really nice green I think I am going to use it to make Chandler some mittens, and a wonderful ball of Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino and some beads to make an Odessa. I love the color! She also sent me this  Lots of great patterns. This book is going to come in very handy! Thank you so much Hanne-Maria!! I hope that you like your package as much as I like mine!!

Something old and something new

Last night I finally got my booga bag finished that is for my tote exchange pal I had to make a bigger strap. The whole thing felted way too much, but the bag came out really good just a little smaller than I had hoped and the first strap went from 6′ to 5″ so I made another and this time I felted by hand instead of machine and it came out much better!! I’ll show you when my pal gets it I want to keep it some what of a surprise! I started a new project last night I started on a pair of knucks from knitty.com I am using black alpaca. I really like the way they are turning out I think these are going to be what I make for my niece’s for christmas this year. I am very pleased with these. I got my mittens felted the other day and they are going to need to be felted again. I am doing these by hand so they do shrink too much and I can get a perfect fit that way! So when they are finished I will post them right now they are not looking their best! I am off to finish my knucks! Happy knitting!! Have a great weekend!
